About us

PublicArt.ie is dedicated to the celebration and promotion of public art in Ireland. It’s a resource for artists, commissioners and researchers, as well as anyone interested in commissioning artwork through the Government’s Per Cent for Art Scheme.

What defines public art? What is the criteria for good public art? And what inspires the creators of the public art that we see around us — in parks, town centres, hospitals, schools and shopping centres? By delving into the stories behind Ireland’s incredible public art pieces and exploring the processes behind them, PublicArt.ie aims to spark conversation and engage with some big questions. Our goal is to showcase the creators and projects that contribute to Ireland’s discourse on art that is made for people and places.

As a public resource, we also provide advice on working with artists and local communities on public art projects, and publish relevant interviews and articles. Our ultimate aim is to bring people together to appreciate, celebrate and engage with artwork in Ireland’s public spaces.

PublicArt.ie is managed by the Arts Council (Local Place & Public Art Team) and works in partnership with creators and artists, local government and other groups. We provide information and advice on the Government’s Per Cent for Art Scheme, an initiative that enables 1% of the cost of any publicly funded capital, infrastructural and building development to be allocated to the commissioning of a work of art. Find further information on the Scheme and its existing guidelines and criteria.
